The Beginning of a New Era

Developer Student Club (DSC) University of Lagos Chapter, held its first event of the year as the new lead, Ifihan Olusheye started her tenure. Due to the pandemic, the virtual event held on the 2nd of October 2020 and was organized to educate, involve, and engage its members regarding the plans, opportunities, and programs the club had prepared for them.

This year’s Info session was hosted by the Lead of DSC University of Lagos. She is working to ensure that DSC Unilag improves the efficiency and effectiveness of the learning resources and programs towards ensuring the growth of its members.

The virtual Google Meet event had quite a large number of attendees even though it was virtual. It was a 2-hour session introducing participants to the Developer Student Club (DSC) in University of Lagos.

The aim of the info session was to ensure that the students of University of Lagos, Nigeria meet and greet with the DSC community on campus, but, more importantly, to educate students on how they can learn, contribute and grow the community.

The info session hosted a list of amazing speakers and panelists. The speakers who were present at the info session were Erica Hanson, the Global Lead, DSC; Akinjobi Sodiq, the previous Lead, DSC University of Lagos; and Dr. Victor Odemuyiwa, the Ag. Director, CITS UniLag.

The event kicked off with a Keynote Speech from Aniedi Udo-Obong, followed by Ms. Hanson’s speech “Why Join DSC?”, which explained the benefits of joining a DSC.

The info session also featured a panel session with panelists Benjamin Alamu, Oluwalolope Hope, Ekene Ashinze, and Stephen Ojo and moderator Arafah Ogunfemi. The panel discussion of the info session was centered on the topic Growing with DSC.

After the panelist session, we had Akinjobi Sodiq talk on Marketing your skills in Tech, and to round off, we had the Ag. Director of the Center for Information and Technology System, Dr. Victor Odemuyiwa talk on the Benefits of Tech Communities in schools.

The Info session ensured that the objectives and goals of the Developer Student Club, University of Lagos Chapter were clearly outlined. The community is currently operating virtually and will be available to impact most students' transition into tech seamlessly.
